COMPANY: Every one told it was a wrong choice, enfin they say that it was a good move as it became a big hit. He said he did what his heart said and he very much excited doing it
HOW HE GOT THE ROLE - He spent six years as professional dubbing artist, before attending acting classes in New York. Earlier, he approached Ram GopalVerma for a role in jungle. He was offered the second lead, which he declined and approached again after one year for a role in COMPANY. But the question was will the well brought up city slick young actor look convincing in the part? Recalls Oberoi, one day Ramuji dropped in and saw my audition tape . He signed me up immediately. But he found my face too soft for a gangster.
Vivek took it on himself to prove to he can scrub away his city sickness to look like a rough and tough gangster within ten days, he transformed himself into an ill-dressed unkempt gangster from the chaws, so much so that Verma didn’t recognize the actor when he dropped into the directors office. Vivek wants to put the same amount of energy in all his films.
He was the first new comer to be nominated in three separate categories in his debut year. Yup! He was nominated for best actor (Saathiya), best support (Company) and most promising new comer-all from ZEE. He was also hailed as best debut.
ROAD: He wanted to do Manoj’s role but Ramuji didn’t want him to play a villain at that point though he was dying to play Babu’s role. He thought he was experimenting too much with his career.DANCE IN ROAD- I love dance say’s Vivek. He has done different kids of dances in Road, Saathiya, and Dum
& OBEROI’S HARDWORK AS SAATHIS: It is the script by Mani Ratnam and dialouges by Gulzar. Highlights- it starts where the other films end. If you wonder about the "ever after" of ‘they lived happily ever after, you have an answer here! Saathya is about what happens when two lovers start living under one roof, when they start fighting for ine bathroom. Interestingly, Shah Rukh Khan once told Vivek that many scenes are based on Shah Rukh and his wife Gauri’s real life. He and Rani dedicated to shoot 18 hrs at a stretch. He personally has shot for 40hrs because of time factor, for they had to finish the work. The derector Shad Ali his friend kept asking if he was okay and could work on? He and Rani another instance decided not have lunch and would getup at 4am and leave the hotel by five start shooting at six sharp, no lunch on locations just a bite on the locations. After pack up sit and had food together. He says Rani is absolute entertainer, she is goonda, badmash. She can be a lady at times and then turn int tomboy thenext minute.
WHAT’S SUCCESS FOR VIVEK: He says he is the same man still travels in an auto rickshaw, even walks down. He says people make too much of stardom and it is a myth, and if people liked him in company means they liked the character he played, but not him and at the end of the day , people like actors more than characters. He says it is the authencity of the role that fetches the appreciations. Stardom is like putting a price or a tag on the talent of an actor and by doing so one devaluates himself.
ATTITUDE TOWARDS MEDIA: HE don’t believe in any publicity so turned down many photo shoots. He says don’t want to do which he doesn’t enjoy doing.
DUM: Dum is not power of biceps it is about the power of the spirit. Its about a man who says it is convenient to have principles but tough to live by them. He says he enjoyed working with Diya, she is a complete paradox, she is mature and immature at the same time.
HOBIES: reading, watching films being with close friends, family, and girlfriends.
