Exotic kannada girl Rakshita was brought up in Mumbai. Her father, B.C. Gowri Shankar, was a popular cinematographer in Kannada and her mother, Mamatha Rao, too acted in a few Kannada films. She joined the film industry after her father's death at her young age. After her father's death, she had to support her family.

She became famous after the kannada film, Appu, which was a major success.With in a short period of time, Rakshita acted with major telugu heros such as Nagarjuna and Ravi Teja. Her exposing in the beach songs getting her more offers. Though she is getting offers in various languages, she has not yet decided to accept these offers as her first love is with Kannada films.

She is now busy with acting in Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam and Tamil Movies. She likes reading books, listening to music and traveling. Her favourite authors are Agatha Christie and Sidney Sheldon.
